FORT WORTH, Texas, (Jan. 31, 2025) – With two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) ProRodeo Tournament on Friday, rodeo contestants were going for broke in every event.

Bracket 4 was completed during the matinee performance where the 2019 world champion tie-down roper, Haven Meged, from Miles City, Montana made it known that he wants to win a title here. Meged stopped the clock in 8.8 seconds Thursday, then came back and was even faster Friday afternoon at 8.5. He has won a total of $4,410 here so far and is now hoping to add to that during the Semi-Finals.

Tie-down roper Haven Meged is hoping to win his first Fort Worth Stock Show ProRodeo Tournament title. Meged, who calls Miles City, Montana, home, topped Bracket 4 in Dickies Arena with times of 8.8 and 8.5 seconds. The $4,410 he won advanced him to the Semi-Finals. FWSSR photo by James Phifer.

Meged will be one of eight competitors in Semi-Finals 1 or 2. He will need to be among the four fastest contestants to advance to the Championship Finals on Saturday, February 8, to have an opportunity to win his first title here.

Also moving on after tying for the arena record on Thursday are team ropers Dustin Egusquiza and Levi Lord. Egusquiza is originally from Florida, but lives near Mineral Wells, Texas now. Lord is his neighbor, but still calls Sturgis, South Dakota, home. They backed up their 3.6-second run from Thursday with a 4.0 for another round win on Friday. They have each earned $4,750 here and could win more in the Semi-Finals.

Friday night’s action was highlighted by bareback rider Tilden Hooper’s 90-point effort on Smith Pro Rodeo’s horse named Risky Business. Hooper won this rodeo in 2020, and a lot has changed in his life in the past five years. His family has grown and he and his wife, Melissa are the proud parents of three toddlers.

Tilden Hooper had the fans at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo ProRodeo Tournament on the edge of their seats during Friday night’s bareback riding. The Parker County resident scored 90 points on Smith Pro Rodeo’s horse named Risky Business to take the lead in Bracket 5. FWSSR photo by James Phifer.

“This is the greatest job I never knew I would have,” Hooper said. “Nothing compares with being a husband and a father. It puts rodeo into perspective.”

Jordon Briggs had the fastest time in the barrel racing on Friday night at 16.30 seconds. The 2021 world champion won the title here in 2009 as Jordon Peterson aboard Frenchman’s Jester when the rodeo was held in Will Rogers Coliseum. This year her success is on Famous Lil Jet known in the rodeo world as Rollo. She finished just outside the top 15 that qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2024 and wants to be on the inside looking out this year. A win here would certainly help her accomplish that goal.

Hooper, Briggs, and all the other Bracket 5 competitors will ride again on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Then Saturday night at 7:30, a new group of contestants will start Bracket 6 of seven.
