WICHITA, Kan. – As the first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast event in Wichita, Kansas, in more than a decade got underway Friday night Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) rode supreme, delivering a monster 90-point ride to win Round 1 of the premier series’ PBR Wichita.
“I’m just extremely blessed,” Kasel said following the Round 1 win. “I’m having fun and have a goal to win the world. I had to get off to a good start (this season) and I’m doing that.”
Kasel was one of 18 riders to convert Friday night inside INTRUST Bank Arena, as the competitors went a torrid 18-for-43, covering 41.86% of the evening’s animal athletes.
The reserved Texan, who rides for the 2024 PBR Teams Champion Austin Gamblers, was tasked with Lap Dancer (Flying S/Dozier Cattle Co.) as competition got underway. In what proved to be a perfect pairing Kasel dominated the powerful bovine for a monstrous 90.75 points.
The score garnered Kasel a crucial 29 Unleash The Beast points. His success, coupled with a 5.82-second buckoff from No. 1 John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) on Sometimes I Fly (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.) allowed Kasel to inch within 103 points of the top spot in the race for the 2025 PBR World Championship and accompanying $1 million bonus.
Austin Richardson (Dallas, Texas) was second.
The newly minted Nashville Stampede rider earned 18 Unleash The Beast points for his 89-point effort on Magic Hunter (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC). The silver showing allowed Richardson to climb 10 spots in the standings, rising from No. 38 to No. 28.
Courtesy of an 87.75-point ride on Constant Payne (Flying S/Kasel/Payne), the New York Mavericks’ Leonardo Castro (Cassilandia, Brazil) was third. Earning 17 Unleash The Beast points in front of the boisterous Kansas crowd, Castro rose from No. 23 to No. 22 in the World Championship race.
The Oklahoma Wildcatters’ Clay Guiton (Cherryville, North Carolina) was fourth, netting 16 Unleash The Beast points as he outlasted Tchoupitoulas (Hart Cattle Co./Hale) for 87.5 points.
Guiton rose five positions in the standings, surging from No. 16 to No. 11.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was the Kansas City Outlaws’ Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil).
Batista took home 15 Unleash The Beast points, climbing from No. 22 to No. 18 in the standings, after he outlasted No Socks (Checkered Flag/Richrdson Land & Cattle) for 87.25 points.
