NEW YORK, N.Y. – Moments after clearing the studio at NBC’s “TODAY,” Kenny Chesney was in a car to Times Square. Having just sat on the couch with hosts Craig Melvin and Carson Daly to share the news of his upcoming Sphere residency kicking off May 22, the high impact songwriter/superstar found himself on several of the electronic billboards around the heart of Manhattan.

Not only was the official ad mat wrapping one of the buildings, live concert videos and the actual wrap on the outside of Sphere were airing across the intersection. Laughing to himself, Chesney decided to get out of the SUV he was in – and grab a couple pictures with all the electronic images promoting his 12-concert residency. “If you’re going to make history, show up and honor the moment,” Chesney said. “You’re only going to announce something this groundbreaking once, and if you’re rolling by this amount of your name or face up in lights, pull over and document the moment.

“This has been a hard secret to keep. We’ve shot footage for these shows since the tour started last year. I kept thinking the news would break. But, I wanted to share it somewhere special and give it the moment it deserved. Following Rock & Roll Hall of Famers U2, the Eagles and Dead + Co, plus Phish into Sphere is a massive honor – Carson and Craig totally got it.”

Got it so well, the two co-hosts toasted Chesney’s groundbreaking moment with a surprise round of Red Bull and Blue Chair Bay Vanilla Rum cocktails, known as a “Boat Captain Ben.” With Daly’s MTV past and Melvin having been to last summer’s massive MetLife Stadium show, both men truly understood the reason taking No Shoes Nation into a new dimension was such a potent quantum leap.

News of Chesney immersing No Shoes Nation in the wrap-around, surround concert experience spread fast. Rolling Stone offered, “No Shoes Nation fandom will descend upon Las Vegas in May… The shows will be a rare chance to see Chesney outside of the massive football stadiums he usually hits on tour,” while USA Today shared, “Kenny Chesney has broken many records in his 30-year career, from record-setting concert attendance to music chart milestones, and now the country superstar will add another accolade to his list when he becomes the first country artist to perform at the Las Vegas Sphere.”

In addition, People, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Las Vegas Review Journal, Tennessean, music-focused Consequence of Sound, Holler, Whiskey RiffMusic Mayhem and The Music Universe, as well as trades Variety, Pollstar, Billboard and HITS all jumped into the reporting fray. Having extended his record on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart with “Take Her Home,” his 33rd No. 1, Chesney is looking forward to giving his music an even deeper dimension with this upcoming residency.

“As we’ve been rehearsing and thinking about how to present these songs in such an immersive way, the band and I have seen even more than we already know is in the music,” Chesney enthuses. “We’re not reinventing all these songs, but for No Shoes Nation, I think there’s a whole new dimension to experience. Or as someone said, ‘No one consumes music like No Shoes Nation, and now the Nation’s going to be consumed by the music.”
