Nashville, Tenn. (September 6, 2024) — GRAMMY-nominated Americana powerhouse Hayes Carll and GOLD-selling rock group The Band of Heathens have reunited for a self-titled album. Branded as Hayes & The Heathens, the eponymous debut will be available October 4.

“Our collaboration was so natural and easy,” says The Band of Heathens’ Ed Jurdi. “We’ve been great compadres for such a long time, and it was just the right time for this project to come to life. I think you can really hear all of that in the music. This is really that rare alliance where 1+1 = 3.”

Hayes & The Heathens today released “Any Other Way,” the second single from the album.

“‘Any Other Way’ is one man’s laissez-faire philosophy set to some country-funk goodness,” Carll says.

The band recorded Hayes & The Heathens in two sessions this past spring at The Finishing School in Austin, TX. Carll and Heathens Jurdi and Gordy Quist wrote seven of the eight songs on the album. Hayes penned their first joint effort, “Nobody Dies From Weed,” with Driver Williams. In addition to the new original songs, the men put their unique spin on The Proclaimers’ 1988 hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” for the self-titled album.

“Leaning into each other’s strengths we found some sonic territory new to all of us, something between country-funk and good-time boogie,” says Quist. “The deciding factor for all of our creative choices on the record came down to the simple question of what sounds more fun.”

The October 4 album release date is significant. Hayes & The Heathens will launch their inaugural music festival, “Everybody’s Somebody Fest,” in Luckenbach Texas the following day. The musicians hatched the concept for Hayes & The Heathens when they played together in Luckenbach in October of 2023.

The group will embark on their tour of western states in September before shifting to Texas in October. The artists will reconvene in December for a run of special holiday shows.

Fans can pre-order Hayes & The Heathens’ self-titled debut album on limited edition whiskey smoke-colored vinyl at hayesandheathens.com. Digital pre-orders, pre-saves and pre-adds are available at the same link.

ABOUT THE BAND OF HEATHENS

The Band of Heathens is an American rock ‘n’ roll band from Austin, Texas since 2005. Founding members Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist remain at the center of the band as primary songwriters and guitarists along with Trevor Nealon on keys who has been with the band since 2008. In 2009 the band was invited to record an episode of Austin City Limits on the heels of the release of their album One Foot In The Ether. The band has found continued success almost 20 years into their existence, the most recent being the release of their critically-acclaimed new album, Simple Things (BOH Records, 2023), and their recording of the song “Hurricane” was just certified gold by the R.I.A.A. (from Top Hat Crown & the Clapmaster’s Son, 2011). The latest album sat at #1 on the official Americana radio chart for 2 months in 2023 and in the top 10 for almost half of the year. The Simple Things album release also earned the band a national TV appearance on CBS Saturday Morning, and added to their already impressive streaming numbers. The band’s discography has been collectively streamed close to a billion times. The Band of Heathens has remained fiercely independent from day one, turning down record deals and forging their own path in the world on their own terms.

ABOUT HAYES CARLL

Texas-born Hayes Carll is an artist whose songwriting has been noted for its plainspoken poetry and sarcastic humor. After releasing his debut album, Flowers & Liquor, in 2002, Carll was voted Best New Act by the Houston Press. Since then, he’s been compared to other Texas songwriters, including Townes Van Zandt, who he said “ruined me and saved me at the same time.”

He released his second album, Little Rock, in 2004. Produced by R.S. Field, Little Rock was the first self-released album to reach No. 1 on the Americana Chart. Carll signed with Lost Highway records in 2006 and released his next album, Trouble in Mind, in 2008. It was ranked No. 60 of the year by The Village Voice. “She Left Me For Jesus,” which appeared on Trouble in Mind, was the Americana Music Association Song of the Year in 2008.

Four songs by Carll appeared in the 2010 film Country Strong, three of which also appeared on the film’s second soundtrack album, Country Strong: More Music from the Motion Picture. Carll was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2016, Best Country Song, for “Chances Are”. In 2019, he released his sixth album, What It Is, on Dualtone Records. He re-recorded many of his songs, including duets with Ray Wylie Hubbard and his wife, Allison Moorer, for 2020’s Alone Together Sessions. His latest album, You Get It All, was released on October 29, 2021 on Dualtone Records.
