KANSAS CITY, Mo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The brand responsible for inventing the original cowboy boot in 1875, HYER Boots, is once again family-owned. After a 45-year hiatus, the Hyer family is now gearing up for an official launch in 2023, with an unwavering commitment to the brand’s unique authenticity, innovation, and expertise in making boots for real cowboys and cowgirls.
“Hyer Boots brings tradition and heritage for a new age, fueled by technology and continued innovation. Teton Ridge is proud to partner with Hyer Boots and honored to support their passionate team and their decades of expertise in western culture.”

The lineage of the company began with entrepreneur C.H. Hyer, who first handcrafted the one-of-a-kind boot tailored for a true cowboy. C.A Hyer, C.H. Hyer’s son, was the second CEO of the company, with the family-owned business later being sold to his daughter, Nannette Hyer Bohl. Nannette’s husband, Ford Bohl, became the third CEO in the Hyer family before selling the HYER brand in the 1970s.
Digging through his grandmother Nannette’s archives, Zach Lawless discovered an incredible family legacy and launched a plan to revive the iconic brand.
“My great, great grandfather is credited as the inventor of one of the most recognizable representations of the American West – the cowboy boot. I feel profoundly honored and humbled to carry that legacy forward, and am deeply grateful for the support of Teton Ridge as they provide great resources to drive our business forward,” said HYER Boots CEO Zach Lawless. “For over 100 years, the Hyer name was known for innovation and ingenuity; together with Teton Ridge we intend to honor that past by building the best boots for the future.”
Teton Ridge, the entertainment brand and media company devoted to the iconic American western way of life, recognized HYER Boots as a remarkable family comeback story and quickly invested in the opportunity to restore a piece of American history.
“Hyer Boots is the original cowboy boot company, born and grown in America, and designed with purpose,” said Emily Castel, Chief Brand and Creative Officer at Teton Ridge. “Hyer Boots brings tradition and heritage for a new age, fueled by technology and continued innovation. Teton Ridge is proud to partner with Hyer Boots and honored to support their passionate team and their decades of expertise in western culture.”
With a strategically curated team of experts and a history unmatched in the category, HYER Boots will make history once again with the launch of a line of cowboy boots in 2023.
